Karachi:
A few days before the inauguration of President Donald Trump for the second term, a Senior Pakistani diplomat informed a group of people, including experts and journalists in Islamabad. He focused on the Pakistan-American relationship under the administration of Trump. The main thing was: Pakistan should be prepared for a difficult challenge.
According to the diplomat, Trump’s team was surrounded by people who had little sympathy for Pakistan. Experts and those who understand Trump as well as the nature of Pakistani-American ties echoed similar feelings. There was a consensus according to which despite the unpredictable nature of Trump, there was little or no room for better prospects for Pakistani links. On the contrary, everyone has agreed that the relationship between the United States and India would only deepen under the second term of President Trump.
But when President Trump pronounced a first address at the US Congress, he congratulated Pakistan. It was an achievement given that until then, he spared no one. He launched a rant against friends and enemies. Pakistan was the only exception, which Trump mentioned positively.
His praise arose from the help of Pakistan to stop one of the main brains of the Abbey of the Abbey of the Abbey in Kabul in August 2021. Muhammad Sharifullah, one of the agents of Isis-Khorasan and, according to the United States, was one of the facilitators of the attack on Kabul airport, was apprehended on the intelligence provided by CIA and Swiftly hendawed to the us.
This cooperation not only earned Trump Pakistan praise, but also opened a communication channel which would finally lead to the Marshal Syed Asim Munnir invited to launch into the White House in an unprecedented turn of events.
When Trump applauded Pakistan at the American Congress, people were always skeptical that this bonhomie would be short -lived because Trump cannot be reliable. Have questions have been raised about what Pakistan had offered or would offer to the United States in exchange for this comfortable approach to the United States? Many people also wonder if Pakistan would get something in return. But what has happened in recent weeks after high -level exchanges and frequent interactions between the two countries is that Trump’s praise was not a simple rhetoric but now reflecting a change in American politics.
Pakistan’s substantial result helping Trump to advance his national program by arresting the abbaye of the abbey of the Abbey was the decision of the US State Department to declare the Balutchistan Liberation Army and its major suicide brigade as terrorist outfit. The designation of Bla and the major brigade, as foreign terrorist organizations (FTO), was a major victory for Pakistan.
Islamabad had long sought his list but with little success. The United States has declared Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as a terrorist outfit, but successive American administrations refrain from taking a similar position against active groups in Balutchistan. One of the reasons included that such groups, including Bla and Majeed Brigade, not only aimed at Pakistani interests, but also mainly Chinese interests in the province of Balutchistan rich in resources.
In many ways, this has probably served the agendas of those who do not want the belt and road to China (BRI) initiative to succeed. This was the reason why the American decision was extraordinary.
The United States has not only listed Bla and Majeed Brigade, but also seems to be ready to extend cooperation in Pakistan to fight them. The two countries recently organized a dialogue against terrorism, a regular characteristic, in Islamabad. The notable change was that for the first time, Bla has reached the joint declaration.
The two delegations stressed “the critical importance” of the development of effective approaches from terrorist threats, distinguishing the Bla alongside transnational outfits. Washington praised Islamabad’s “continuous success” in entities containing entities that threaten regional and global peace. Consequently, the list of Bla and Majeed Brigade is a development that has legal, political, diplomatic and operational implications for Pakistan, the United States and even India.
First, all the funds or goods of the Bla or Majeed Brigade in the American jurisdiction are now frozen. Members and affiliates cannot enter the United States. Providing group support to the group is now a serious American federal crime, even for people outside the United States if they have American ties. The designation makes it more difficult to collect international funds through charitable organizations, front companies or sympathetic diaspora groups.
The TAG FTO makes members more risky to travel abroad or to seek asylum in countries aligned with policies to combat American terrorism. The United States can now share intelligence more actively with Pakistan and allies to follow, disturb or eliminate group cells. Sympathizers based on the diaspora in the West could face surveillance and pursuit. If Bla finds security shelters in neighboring states, including Afghanistan, the United States lists the pressures of these governments to take measures or cope with reputation costs.
Although the designation does not end the insurrection, it can weaken its external support structure, in particular for highly publicized suicide attacks such as those of the major brigade.
Second, Pakistan has long said that Bla is a terrorist group supported abroad responsible for attacks in Balutchistan. The American designation is an international approval of this position.
Third, India openly supported Balouthes separatists. The American movement indicates that Washington would not align with New Delhi on this issue.
Fourth, this list highlights a warming security relationship between Pakistan and the United States.
Fifth, quietly, it could create discomfort in New Delhi if the measures to combat American terrorism begin to expose Indian contacts with Balouthes separatists. It has not been said publicly, but the American move could also be linked to its keen interest in unused resources of mines and minerals available in abundance in Balutchistan. But security is a major challenge.
Some see the American interest in mines and minerals with suspicion. Opinion, in official Pakistani circles, is that the American investment in Balutchistan could stabilize the situation and that it can lay the foundations for long -term cooperation between the two countries. The list of Bla and Majeed Brigade is seen in this context.
