A relatively unknown Chinese company, Emdoor Digital Technology, introduced a commercial laptop prototype with an unconventional design, winning the prestigious design price for 2025.
The XCAIM laptop immediately stands out with its on -board board keyboard, eliminating the traditional palm rest area and replacing the conventional touchpad with a fully interactive palm rest surface with touch buttons.
The XCAIM laptop will include a Samsung V-Nand SSD 980, available in capacity ranging from 250 GB to 1 TB, which suggests that it could be a appropriate laptop for programming.
A daring rethink of the design of laptops
Like the Honor Magicbook Art 14 (2024), the XCAIM laptop is delivered with a modular commercial webcam which connects magnetically above the screen, incorporates environmental detection in real time and can serve as a secondary screen when it is detached, displaying shortcuts and notifications.
The XCAIM laptop adopts an elegant and modern design with a white and black color palette and thin glasses. It offers an ordinary hinge design and a chiclet style keyboard. The function keys are replaced by a tactile function area.
Just below the keyboard, a small horizontal screen displays system status icons, call information and digital battery display. A removable lower panel reveals two cooling fans.
The laptop connectivity options are minimal, with only three USB-C ports, two on the right side and one on the left.
The XCAIM laptop is not yet available in trade, but it offers an overview of a future where conceptions of commercial laptops are released from tradition, embracing new forms of interaction and integration of AI tools.
The IF Design Prize is often considered to be the “Oscars” of the design industry, and the 2025 edition of the competition experienced nearly 11,000 admissions from 66 countries, with 131 jurors from 23 countries selecting the most remarkable conceptions.
