Regarding cleaning habits, opinions vary massively. I manage all the items on floor on Techradar, and even if I have some of the best vacuum cleaners of my closet, and I spend much more time thinking about the vacuum cleaner than the average person, that does not mean that I do it regularly.
To find out if my cleaning habits are up to it, I decided to discover it – a cleaning expert – exactly how often we should all pass the floors. I spoke to Kiril Natov, a carpet and furnishings cleaning technician and CEO of the Clean Premium Cleaning Company, with 18 years of experience in the industry. Here is what he had to say …
How often should you under the vacuum cleaner?
“Take a carpet vacuum cleaner at least twice a week, even if they don’t seem dirty,” suggests Natov. If you have pets or children, it recommends increasing this frequency.
Is that important the type of vacuum you use? “For carpets in cut heaps, use a vacuum with a drummer bar or a brush to improve cleaning,” advises Natov. A battery bar is just a rotary roll in the cleaner head, often with hairs, which helps to wave the carpet fibers. When the Techradar team recommends the best vacuum cleaners for the carpet, we are also looking for models that have enough suction to pull the dust and debris that are stuck in the carpet.
Natov also suggests that you could use a Robovac. My experience is that even the best robot vacuum vacuums today do not have enough suction for a very deep carpet, but they are perfect for staying above light and light cleanings.
How often should you go vacuuming?
“We recommend the free floor vacuum cleaner once a week,” said Natov. He suggests using the hard floor of your vacuum cleaner if it has one.
What type of vacuum should you use for hard floors? “Any emptiness can suck the dust, hair and crumbs from your hard wood, tiles or vinyl floors, but some models do it better than others,” said Natov. “To avoid diffusing debris or perhaps damaging delicate floor coverings, looking for a vacuum cleaner that allows you to deactivate the brush roll in rotation or a special special head with soft hairs.”
My own superior choices for the best vacuum vacuum vacuum vacation are models that include a dedicated soft floor head – as Natov says, these are perfect for cleaning the dust and the debris of the very delicate hard floors. The examples include the detection of Dyson V15 and the Drene R20.

How often should you vacuum your sofa?
“We recommend that you vacuum the furniture and furnishings once a month,” said Natov, noting that animal owners may want to increase this every two days. He suggests paying particular attention to your sofa – it is one of the most trafficking areas in your home, so it is required to pick up dirt and dust.
Regarding cleaning furniture and padding, these are accessories. If you buy a wireless vacuum cleaner, look for one with a mini motorized cleaning head-a bit like a narrowed version of the head of the ground floor. This will help you cover larger and unequal surfaces such as sofa cushions.
Natov’s last hot tip to ensure complete cleaning is to stay on the maintenance of the vacuum cleaner. Clean your filters regularly (and make sure they are completely dry before putting them back in the machine – or your vacuum cleaner will start to feel), replace the online filters with the manufacturer’s directives, stay on the emptying of the dust cup and do not forget to also clean the accessories.
