Google Assistant could be released while Gemini is gradually replacing him, but before leaving the scene, it seems to cause problems with the calls and missed alarms – apparently due to a bug not to disturb.
With reports emerging first on Reddit, the Android Authority team was also able to reproduce the problem. Essentially, the activation of not disturbing via a Google Mute Voice assistant command also entirely calls and alarms.
This means all the personalized adjustments that you have made – concerning specific contacts, applications and alarms that are exempt from the rules not to disturb – will not be applied, you could therefore miss various communications and alerts.
The simple fix is to allow not to disturb and its different modes via Android parameters and shortcuts, rather than Google Assistant, which should properly apply the functionality. However, this could easily lead users caught up.

The problem seems to be linked to the different flavors not to disturb what can be configured via not disturbing. If you have a pixel phone, you can find them by heading to the settings and typing on the Modes entrance.
From there, you can customize the options so as not to disturb and configure additional modes – for driving or when you sleep, for example. Each mode can be configured differently with regard to applications and exempt contacts to be cut.
In the Thread Reddit linked above, a user had missed an alarm call, while another had defined calls from an elderly parent with dementia in replacing not to disturb, but had discovered that this did not work as planned.
So far, Google has not commented on the bug, nor said anything on a fix – we will update this article if there is an update. It is not clear either if the bug affects all Android devices, but it is something to watch.
