Prince Frederik of Luxembourg died on March 1, 2025, at the age of 22, his family said in a statement.
He was the youngest son of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and Princess Julie de Nassau.
His death was due to the mitochondrial Polg disease, a rare genetic condition which he had struggled since his diagnosis at the age of 14.
The news was announced by her family, his father sharing a sincere tribute on the POLG Foundation website, an organization that Frederik founded to support research on the disease.
In a deeply moving statement, his parents said:
