- Apple continues to fill its sports monitoring application with new sports
- Tennis is the last entry
- Apple also adds more personalization and granularity
Apple simply struck a crash, adding tennis to its sporty app only in time for the biggest sport competition: Wimbledon.
After launching in 2024 with the NBA, NHL, MLS, NCAA basketball and NCAA football, Apple Sports quickly added the MLB and has since extended to include the NFL, the race and other leagues. Tennis, however, was a notable gap.
Sport is coming today and is now part of the free application, which is available in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. As with other sports, the game cover will include a point by point live but not the game. So don’t expect line calls in the cover.
One of the reasons why people like me like apple sports are that he lives up to his promise in real time, offering, in baseball, for example, almost instant updates on runners and the score. Tennis may be an even faster game.
In a statement on the update, Apple is promising, “the live scores were incredibly quickly”. We will see.
Apple Sports, however, will let the fans follow all the matches that occur after the qualifications. It will therefore not be the best match at any time, Apple Sports will cover all Wimbledon matches. The tennis coverage will offer personalized sports cards backgrounds for each match, with the grass or clay used in the shorts of each tournament (Wimbledon uses the grass).
Tennis will also benefit from certain other updates across the application, including a refined home screen which now allows you to personalize the organization by League.
It will be useful even if you are not also a tennis fan. Speaking of this, I am particularly enthusiastic about the small update that arrives at MLB coverage in live activities, which will now display the active details of the launcher and the striker under the score.
This was a notable gap in the sports baseball coverage. This is one of the main reasons why, although I like live sports activities, which can even appear on your locking screen, I often had to go to the MLB.com page for more details on the stick.
Creddy tennis
With two weeks (June 30 to July 13) and dozens of games, Wimbledon will provide a rich test for the sports platform. You cannot follow individual players, which can make the whole matter feel a little chaotic. Hopefully sports will eventually allow you to do so so that you can quickly go to a match for your “favorite” player.
Sport still maintains focus on the sporting events of the League and does not yet cover things such as the next MLB star match (July 15) or the NBA draft (June 25). In a way, this helps keep the application clean and effective, but it also means that sport lacks key moments in each experience of the sports league.
In addition, while Apple Sports is available on the iPhone and visible as live activities on Apple Watch, there is no word on the plans to bring it to the iPad … for the moment.
