Aaron Glenn not committing to Justin Fields as Jets starter despite first win of season
Justin Fields led the New York Jets to a wild comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals on the road this weekend, but earning the suffering franchise its first win of the season wasn’t enough to solidify him as the starting quarterback heading into the bye week.
Fields was the Jets’ starter for seven winless weeks in his first season with the team, but heading into Week 8 against the Bengals, many reports were speculating that backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor would get the nod against Cincinnati.

An injury to Taylor forced the Jets’ hand and Fields was back in charge.
Things took a surprising turn as Fields went 21 of 32 for 244 yards and a touchdown, along with 31 yards on 11 carries in the thrilling 39-38 victory. He also threw a pass and ran for 2-point conversions.
Fields’ stellar performance has naturally led to speculation about what the organization will do next at the quarterback position. But on Monday, Glenn seemed uninterested in making a decision.
JETS’ JUSTIN FIELDS REVEALS WHY HE WAS ‘CRYING ON THE FLOOR’ IN THE CLOSET BEFORE FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
“I think you know what my answer is going to be on that,” Glenn said when asked if Fields would start against Cleveland on Nov. 9. “It’s the bye week, and we’re going to focus on us. And, look, I have time to make this decision. Again, that’s one of the good things about the bye week.”
Glenn added, “But seriously, man, this gives us a chance to really focus on the good, the bad and the ugly and try to sort those things out because we know we have a ways to go.”
Fields revealed his emotions about the season after the win, saying he was on the floor of his closet at one point during the week crying.
“Football is football,” he said, “but it was much more just about the journey and how we got to this point, just facing adversity and fighting through adversity.”
The Jets will have some free time to reflect on the victory before returning home to face the Browns, who are facing a quarterback dilemma of their own.
