Abandonment of illegal weapons crucial for the peace of Kurram

KHYBER-PAKHTUNKHWA, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary’s chief secretary, stressed the need to give up all illegal weapons to ensure permanent peace, safe trips and law enforcement in the Kurram-Pakhtunkhwa tribal district. .

Addressing the participants of Kurram Grand Jirga to Commissioner House, Kohat, Tuesday evening, the chief secretary stressed the essential role of community cooperation in conflict resolution.

The meeting was followed by IGP Akhtar Hayat Khan, Goc Kohat Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Mutasim Billah Shah, RPO Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat, Deputy Commissioner Kohat Abdul Akram, and the main parlaiels of the Kurram district.

The chief secretary said that if the current conflict in Kurram seems to involve two groups, extremist elements are trying to exploit the situation to feed hatred. He called on the two parties to identify and isolate these elements to prevent them from succeeding in their malicious conceptions.

Stressing the government’s commitment, he reiterated that the Kohat agreement will be implemented at all costs, with complete cooperation of all the parties concerned.

“Understanding and tolerance are imperative to protect our areas and people. This situation should not be taken lightly,” he added.

The chief secretary has also assured that the rule of law will be confirmed without exception. “Strict legal action will be taken against anyone violating the orders or laws of the government. The FIR are not simple formalities; they will be executed, and the culprits will have to undergo serious sanctions,” he warned.

Stressing unity and collective responsibility, he called on Kurram young people to actively participate in the efforts to strengthen peace and urged the two parties to work in close collaboration with the government to maintain public order in the region.

Earlier, the chief secretary and the IG police visited the Hangu district, where he examined the installations of a temporary rescue camp created for families evacuated from certain villages of Kurram.

Expressing the satisfaction of the arrangements, he met with displaced citizens and assured them of the government’s commitment to meet their needs.
