Rawalpindi:
During the first convention of the day of the AWAM Pakistan Party Foundation (APP) in Rawalpindi, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi published a scathing political and economic situation in the country on Friday.
Addressing party workers and supporters, the chief of application called the Pakistan justice system “a political engineering tool” and warned that growing inequalities and poor governance pushed the country towards instability.
Abbasi questioned the recent conviction of opposition leaders. “If the opposition leader was to be sentenced to 30 years, this trial would have been shown live on television,” he said. “Justice should not only be done-it must be considered,” he said.
“Who will invest in a country where the opposition chief is condemned as a criminal without a transparent process?” He asked. He added that the concept of fair justice was entirely eroded in Pakistan. “The justice and equity system ended.”
The former Prime Minister accused the government of using state machines for personal and political purposes. The government is used to earn money, not to serve the people, “he accused.
Turning his attention to the economy, Abbasi declared that a government that had not passed through the real mandate of the people cannot lead the country to development. He cited the example of sugar export policy as proof of elite capture and collusion.
“There was a shortage, but 15% of our sugar was authorized to be exported,” he said. “Pakistan produces nearly 6 million tonnes of sugar, but the owners of sugar -sucks – who are also seated in parliament – saddens the intermediaries, then the prices of sugar increase for ordinary citizens.”
Abbasi wondered if the government had made an improvement in education, health care or governance over the past eight months.
