- The use of AI has now become a promotional indicator for Accenture
- Older workers are reluctant to adopt, non-users have already been warned of their unsuitability
- Decision raises questions about who creates content at Accenture
Accenture would now monitor its employees’ use of AI to tie promotion eligibility to “regular adoption” of internal AI tools, according to Financial Times report.
Weekly logins to Accenture’s AI tools are linked to some of its senior executives. These factors will be visible in the company’s summer promotion decisions.
This comes as senior managers appear more reluctant to embrace artificial intelligence than more junior employees, and workers are clearly unhappy with the changes.
Some employees have already called these ineffective tools “generating broken spoil,” with one worker even threatening to “resign immediately” if directly affected.
“Using our key tools will be a visible contribution to talent discussions,” an email seen by the Financial Times bed.
However, not all workers appear to be affected to the same extent. Accenture employees in 12 European countries will be exempt, and those in the U.S. federal government contracts division are also exempt from the new measure.
While the application may seem extreme, CEO Julie Sweet previously warned that staff unable to adapt to AI may no longer be a good fit for the company.
And the company isn’t in a better position at the moment, with stock prices down about 42% over the past year. The most recent quarterly revenue growth was 5%, with full-year growth forecast for a modest 3-5% increase.
“Our strategy is to be the reinvention partner of choice for our customers and to be the most customer-centric and AI-enabled workplace,” the company said, referring to the need to adopt “the latest tools and technologies.”
