- Haptic buttons are provided for Apple devices
- They are more durable and more customizable
- It is unlikely that we will see them on the iPhone 17
Haptic pimples (also called buttons in a solid state) do not move physically – they simply give your fingers comments in the form of vibrations to simulate a click. Apple uses them for its MacBook trackpads, and it seems that they will soon come to many other devices.
According to the famous Tipster Instant Digital (via Macrumors), Apple explores the idea of using haptic buttons for the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch – although the indications are that it is not something that we will not see in the refreshments of this year.
This is not the first time that this rumor has appeared – we have thought that we could recover haptic buttons with the iPhone 15 series, if you remember – but it seems that they are back on the agenda for Apple, and this time not only for the iPhone.
We do not get much more information than that, but the advantages of these haptic buttons are that they last longer (because they do not really move) and offer more personalization options (because the force of feedback can be adjusted if necessary).
Buttoned
On the basis of this rumor at least, it seems unlikely that haptic buttons will be ready for the iPhone 17, or even the Apple Watch Series 11. These two devices will now be in the last stages of their development before a planned launch of September.
However, looking further, part of this technology may appear in Apple 2026 devices (at that time, Apple’s launch calendar could be more amazed). It could also appear slowly, on some buttons but not on others.
The iPhone 16 handsets have a partially haptic camera control button, but it uses technology that is actually a solid state and physical mechanism. It may show that Apple experiences before going to haptics.
Other leaks have suggested that Apple is working towards an all-screen iPhone in the coming years (without notch or islands), while rumors of an iPhone without port have swirl for years. Haptic buttons could be part of this large plan.
