Lahore:
Despite the current tensions between Pakistan and India, five Afghan transit trucks, loaded with Afghan dried fruit led by Pakistani drivers, crossed India via the Wagah-Attari border, sources announced on Friday.
The trucks, according to sources, were parked on the border under the supervision of the National Logistics Cell (NLC) for several weeks, awaiting authorization to proceed. They crossed the border after the Indian government issued an entrance license 24 hours a day.
Pakistan allowed trucks to continue at the request of the Afghan government, they said. The Afghan government had asked Pakistan to authorize the transition to 150 trucks, carrying dried fruit in India via the Wagah border after India closed the border last month in the middle of increasing tensions.
On May 1, Pakistan granted conditional approval so that these trucks pass through India. However, the process was delayed due to the issuance of entry permits by the Indian authorities. Other delays followed due to border skirmishes and increased tensions between the two countries.
