Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Monday directed the authorities to complete the process of verifying the disbursement of relief funds to affected families in Tirah within a week, stressing that payments must be ensured at the earliest.
The directives were issued at a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister to review issues relating to payment of compensation and relief funds to Tirah, Kurram and Bajaur disaster victims.
The meeting was briefed in detail about the ongoing relief measures in the affected areas, utilization of funds and payment mechanism.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed that the verification process of those affected by Tirah must be completed within seven days under any circumstances to avoid any further delay in payments. He ordered that a complete and transparent digital record of all payments be kept to ensure proper accounting of every penny spent.
Afridi made it clear that no negligence, inefficiency or mismanagement would be tolerated in the use of funds allocated for assistance to the affected people. He reiterated the strong determination of the provincial government to use all available resources for the rehabilitation and support of those affected by natural disasters and security operations.
The Chief Minister further asked the concerned departments to write formally to the federal government seeking release of the monies owed to the affected individuals so that the pending payments could be made without delay. He also ordered the creation of a special fund aimed at ensuring the rehabilitation and long-term assistance of those affected by natural disasters and security-related operations.
During the briefing, the meeting was informed that out of the total Rs4 billion allocated for assistance to the affected people, Rs900 million had already been spent. It was also revealed that the registration of 17,000 affected households in the Tirah Valley had been completed.
It was informed in the meeting that relief would be provided daily to 1,000 households in Tirah. For effective monitoring and transparency, a digital dashboard is being developed to track the disbursement process. The officials also informed the meeting that the affected people residing in Bakkakhel camp were receiving relief funds on a monthly basis.
