Ahsan Iqbal urges AI pushing on the key sectors in Pakistan

The Federal Minister of Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, called on Thursday to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) in the national development strategy of Pakistan, announcing a new national fund of AI and action plans specific to the sector.

Chair a meeting of the National Working Group on AI, Ahsan Iqbal said that the adoption of AI must be guided by transversal collaboration and alignment with the country’s strategic priorities.

“The adoption of the AI ​​cannot be advanced in isolation and must rather be guided by a transversal collaboration, in alignment with national priorities and effective coordination in all the institutions concerned”, according to a press release from the Press Information Department (PID).

“It’s time for Pakistan to move forward with clarity and goal.”

The working group, trained in April 2023, endeavors to finalize a 10 -year roadmap to accelerate the use of AI on several fields.

Twelve key sectors have been identified – including education, health, agriculture, climate, business and governance – where AI can provide measurable national gains. Each sector will form a work group with multiple chargers with representatives of government, academic world and industry to write tailor -made roadmaps with objectives and deadlines.

The initiative also includes the creation of an AI national fund to support innovative ideas and pilot projects. Ahsan Iqbal called for a national mapping of expertise and research infrastructure on AI to guide the allocation of resources and the design of policies.

In addition, the working group was invited to organize an AI national workshop in collaboration with Pakistan It Industry Association (p @ sha) and other relevant bodies. The workshop will serve as a platform to develop practical solutions aligned with the development needs of Pakistan.

The Minister has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure that Pakistan is not left in the world race for technological leadership.
