Apple has just unveiled two new AirPods features as part of its Keynote WWDC 2025, where it revealed new software updates for iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac and everything else.
Everything else includes the best Apple AirPods, because the AirPods Pro 2, Airpods 4 and AirPods 4 with old will both receive new features as part of the new updates.
The first feature is “Studio quality audio recording”, while the second is “camera remote control” – both are small updates compared to the huge Airpods hearing aid revealed last year, but both seem to be useful regularly.
It is only the three models that will obtain these upgrades, because it is the only models with the H2 chip that feeds them. Yes, even recently refreshed AirPods with USB-C do not get them, because they still use the old H1 chip.
Here is what Apple has revealed on upgrades so far.
Studio quality audio recording
The first feature promises richer audio quality when using your airpods microphones to record or during calls. Apple says that “interviewers, podcasters, singers and other creators can record their content with greater sound quality, and even record on the move or in noisy environments with vocal isolation”.
Now, I don’t think you need to be a content creator to benefit from it. Apple says that “users will also benefit from a more natural vocal texture and clarity between iPhone, Facetime calls and compatible calls callkit”, so I hope this means that your WhatsApp calls and everything else will obtain an increase in clarity. Apple says it will also work in vocal memos, video recording applications and dictation tools.
We test the quality of the microphone and the voice of all the best headphones that we recommend, so I can’t wait to see how it improves things, because Apple has already reinforced those of the quality of the Airpod Pro 2 voice.
Camera control
Apple says that “capturing the content remotely is easier than ever with the camera remote control”. You can now press and hold the airpods upper to take a photo or start a video recording, then you can repeat the action to end the recording.
Apple highlights the possibility of hearing a soundtrack while dancing as a main advantage of this tool, but for those of us who do not live our life a tiktok trend at the same time, it seems really useful if it also works when your airpods are not in your ears, so you can trigger the camera for a family photo.
There are a few pieces of information that we do not know here – first, it is if they work when they are not in your ears, as I mentioned above, and the second is whether you should choose if the gesture triggers photos Or Video, or if there is a way to do it (maybe left can make the video and right can take photos).
I must say that it could have been an upgrade for AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 1st Gen too – I really don’t think it needs the H2 chip, but Apple has only announced it for AirPod 4 and AirPods Pro 2 models.
