Alaska Airlines was forced to cancel hundreds of flights after experiencing a “computer outage that resulted in a system-wide ground shutdown of Alaska and Horizon Air flights.”
Alaska Airlines confirmed the news in an update released over the weekend, saying there had been an “outage” in its main data center. He denied that it was a cyberattack or a similar external incident:
“The IT outage does not constitute a cybersecurity incident,” he said. “The IT outage is not a cybersecurity event and is not related to any other event.”

This event, which is not related to any other event, impacted several of Alaska Airlines’ key systems that enable it to conduct various operations, the announcement further states. As a result, the company was forced to ground hundreds of planes.
“The safety of our flights has never been compromised,” he concludes.
Many other flights were delayed and more than 50,000 passengers were affected by the incident.
Operations were apparently restored Friday morning, but the company continued to work through the weekend to further “normalize” them.
This is the second major outage to hit Alaska Airlines, after a problem in July 2025 which also forced the company to ground its flights.
“After a similar disruption earlier this year, we took steps to strengthen our systems, but this failure highlights the work that remains to ensure system stability,” the company said in its statement.
“We are immediately bringing in external technical experts to diagnose our entire IT infrastructure to ensure we are as resilient as necessary. »
The company provided no explanation for the root cause, leading media and researchers to speculate that it was the work of the Scattered Spider ransomware group. However, the airline claims this was not the case.
