RAWALPINDI:

Aleema Khan, sister of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, on Tuesday dismissed any notion of ongoing behind-the-scenes talks, saying no negotiations were taking place and daring anyone claiming otherwise to engage directly with her brother.

The statement comes as the incarcerated leader’s sisters were once again denied access to Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi, prompting the party to denounce the continued restrictions as a “gross violation of fundamental human and constitutional rights”.

Addressing the media at the Gorakhpur checkpoint near Adiala jail, Aleema said the former prime minister remained defiant despite prolonged incarceration.

“No negotiations or talks are taking place. If anyone has the courage, he should go and talk to the PTI founder directly and hold negotiations,” she said.

Aleema claimed Imran was “extremely angry” and had been kept in solitary confinement for almost three years.

She questioned the logic of holding him for such a prolonged period and then suggesting a deal. She further alleged that there were deliberate attempts to damage his eyesight to pressure him into seeking a deal.

“Eid has passed, but we were not allowed to meet. Today is the first Tuesday after Eid, so we should be allowed to meet. We have come for a meeting and we will stay here until we are allowed. This is our constitutional and legal right, and denying it is a violation of human rights,” she said.

She also raised concerns over the lack of transparency regarding Imran’s medical treatment, saying even the family had not been informed about his recent procedure.

Responding to a question about her transfer between prison and hospital, she said: “We don’t know anything; even the family has not been informed. We found out about it through social media, newspapers and television. We have no idea about the treatment that is being administered.”

Aleema added that the two doctors suggested by the family were not given proper access and information.

Meanwhile, his sister Noreen Niazi strongly criticized the situation, saying: “There is no law in the country.”

She rejected any suggestion of a deal, adding: “Those who owned assets abroad and committed thefts made deals. The PTI founder committed no crime and is unjustly imprisoned. We will not let this slide. From the prison authorities to the government officials involved, everyone will be held accountable.”

Meanwhile, the Islamabad chapter of the party came up with a structured roadmap to secure Imran’s release, saying a comprehensive and coordinated strategy was essential.
