Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin, moved into the three goals after crossing the brand of all time of Wayne Gretzky when he scored his 892nd goal against the Hurricanes of Carolina on Wednesday evening.
It was the only goal of the capital during their 5-1 defeat against the Hurricanes. He almost scored two in the match, but was arrested within the reach of Point-Blank by goalkeeper Frederik Andersen in the second period. He ended up beating Andersen on a power game 5 against 3 later in the second.

“We have a fairly good luck in the second, the first change of a breakaway,” said Ovechkin. “And in this match, if you have a chance, you have to use it and I think all the guards play well tonight.”
Ovechkin recognized the atmosphere of the playoff series in Raleigh, in North Carolina. During the third period, eight players received misconduct after several fights broke out.
“We understand that there is a possibility of seeing them in the playoffs,” said Ovechkin. “It was an atmosphere in the playoff series there.”

Washington and Carolina are the two best teams in the metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference. Capitals have 105 points and hurricanes have 96.
“The Gr8 Chase” is still underway, at least for seven more games. Ovechkin could close the record by the end of the weekend with a match against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday evening, then a game on the road against the New York Islanders on Sunday.
Gretzky’s 894 goals’ record was once unbeatable, but Ovechkin should challenge the chances.

“(The record) has the impression that that’s right,” said the capital defender Trevor Van Riemsdyk. “He has the impression of always scoring every night. It was huge for us and great for him to see that he always does it at this hot pace.”
