- Alexa + Ama of Amazon has just struck 100,000 users in the United States
- However, the CEO of the company warned that agentic technology is still “primitive”
- Alexa + takes place in waves, but some key features are still missing
Like many other large technological companies, Amazon has jumped into the train of artificial intelligence (AI) by launching its own AIA assistant Alexa + in February. Now the company has announced that the tool had been deployed to 100,000 users.
Currently, Alexa + focuses on the provision of a conversational experience with an AI chatbot, although Amazon aims to permeate the “agentic” capacities in the future. This would allow him to operate as an agent in your name, interacting with third -party applications in order to perform the tasks you ask him.
This little treat came from the CEO of Amazon Andy Jassy during the company’s recent call for results. There, Jassy explained that “our intention is for agents to carry out complex and multi-stage multi-scale tasks”, and “there were no agents oriented towards action like this to Alexa +”.
However, the most recent update to Alexa + lacks some of the key features that Amazon demonstrated in February, as the Washington Post pointed out. It would not be the first AI to arrive without promised capacities – Siri fueled by AI Apple has faced many delays and disturbances – and this shows how difficult it can be to get ahead in the AI of arms race.
Even Jassy admitted that Alexa + faced challenges. In general, agental AI tools are still “primitive”, noted the Amazon CEO, the AMAzon ACO ACO model from Nova aimed at improving their precision by only 30% to 60%. Finally, the objective is to achieve precision of more than 90%, but clearly Alexa + is not yet there.
Limited availability
The registration of 100,000 users may seem impressive, but it is a small fraction of the 600 million existing Alexa devices. Amazon previously declared that it aims to launch Alexa + in the waves, so we must expect to see an increase in availability in the United States in the coming months. There is not yet any news on an international deployment.
Among the users who have tried it so far, few have shared their thoughts or given information on how it works. This has changed recently, however, when the Prettybe user went to Reddit to answer questions from the AI chatbot.
During the session, Pretty2be said that Alexa + is good to interpret natural speech and is able to avoid interrupting. Other positive comments have included his speech synthetic capacities, although the user has criticized his tendency to push you to Amazon music, even when you try to use Spotify.
We do not know when Alexa + will deploy more users, but it is clear that there is still work to be done, to judge by the comments of Pretty2be and the comments of the CEO of Amazon Jassy. Hopefully the missing features will come before registering the next 100,000 users.
