As I briefly approached in my Alien: earth Review, Chandler plays a hybrid called Wendy. Created by Prodigy Corp., one of the five multinationals of the earth, the hybrids are technological prototypes which see the awareness of a child transferred to the body of an adult -size synthetic. The reason why children are used for such experiences is that their mind is more malleable than adults, so they will not reject the process of transformation.
Episodes 1 and 2 of the Stranger The very first franchise television show reveals that there is more to the creation of Wendy than to meet the eyes. On the one hand, its real name is not Wendy, but rather the name that this hybrid chooses for its transcendence. As we learn, her real name is Marcy and she was chosen to be the first hybrid because she had a terminal disease.
That’s not all. Marcy was the biological sister of Joe ‘CJ’ Hermit, a doctor employed by Prodigy who is described by Lawther. Instead of telling Joe the truth about what happened to his younger brother, Prodigy said Marcy died. Oh, and the harmful megacorporation also lied to Marcy why Joe could not visit him at the secret seat of Neverland – Prodigy telling Marcy that he was always too busy to visit him.
However, when Wendy learns that Joe is part of the research and rescue operation after a deep -yutani -yutani research accident lands on Prodigy City – a spacecraft filled with terrifying creatures, nothing less – she convinces the CEO Kavalier to send him, Kirsh, and her hybrid colleagues to help the life -rescue effort. In short, Wendy / Marcy traces her brother, but it is not exactly the perfect meeting she hoped.
Given that he had made peace with the death of his sister, it is easy to see why Joe cannot understand the fact that Marcy is somewhat return from the dead. And, while Wendy / Marcy manages to convince Joe, it is really she by a trip in the past in the Stranger Second chapter in the series, it is clear that things cannot come back to the way they were when the two were children.
“It’s really fun to play with the vulnerability and the innocence it carries, and marry this with the fact that it is essentially a weapon,” said Chandler. “What is it in the minds of a child? And what does that do to your sense of fear and to your sense of identity?
“For Wendy, I think that if she does not have her brother and this link with her real life, her understanding of her identity could start to vacillate,” added Chandler. “It is also very important for other reasons, but he is the only other person on earth who knows her as her full self. Everyone tells her that she is something different, so she needs Joe to keep remembering who she is.”
“No one sees Marcy as Joe,” added Lawther. “It becomes this thing of desire of this person [Marcy] to be the person they say to be, rather than what they seem to be [Wendy].
“And that causes tensions to each other,” said Lawther. “Joe clings to this idea of her brother who can no longer be. He cannot really grasp this concept of this hybrid being her sister, but also something else. He has trouble recognizing the person he has lost and we will see how all this takes place over time.”
Alien: the episodes of Earth 1 and 2 are now on Hulu (United States) and Disney +(internationally). New episodes look weekly.
