Alijah Arenas, son of the former NBA star, Gilbert Arenas, would be out of his coma induced some 24 hours after being involved in a serious car accident.

Arenas, 18, remained intubated, but the development of his recovery was “remarkable and full of hope,” said a representative of the Arenas family, according to TMZ Sports.

“It was then that I realized that someone was inside. I tried to break the window, but it would not give. Then, I saw that one of the windows was cracked just enough, and we used everything we had to fold and remove it. The car was on fire. We just knew that we had to take it out.”

Arenas was one of the best -classified shooting guards in the 2026 class, and recently reclassified as a senior to allow him to obtain his secondary school diploma in 2025 and go to university a year earlier.

His father, Gilbert Arenas, played in the NBA for 12 seasons. He was three times All-Star and spent eight seasons with the Washington Wizards, two with the Golden State Warriors and a season each with the Orlando Magic and Memphis grizzles.
