ISLAMABAD:
On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, all 21 routes of the electric bus service were made fully functional as part of a project to provide quality and affordable travel facilities to citizens. The electric bus service has received an overwhelmingly positive reception from the public, with daily ridership steadily increasing.
It was reported that in a single day, 102,000 citizens took advantage of the electric bus service. This was stated at a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa to review the progress of ongoing and proposed development projects in Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Nifasat Raza, Member Planning Dr Khalid Hafeez, General Manager Procurement and Contracts, other senior officers and project directors of relevant programs. A detailed review of the progress made in various development projects across the city was carried out.
The meeting was informed that the construction of the electric bus depot, comprising two sites, is almost complete, with around 97 percent of the work completed. It was further reported that the construction work at Site A of the bus depot has been fully completed.
The progress of the project to connect Margalla Avenue to the M-1 highway was also reviewed. Similarly, in-depth discussions were held on the construction of the Convention, Exhibition and Exhibition Centre, as well as the proposed luxury hotel project in Islamabad.
