Almost half of the development funds remain unused with the remaining days in the budget

Islamabad: On the development budget revised downwards 1.096 Billion, the federal government spent only 54% – approximately RS0.593 Billions – During the first 11 months of the outgoing financial year.

Meanwhile, the STO’s success program – a disputed initiative reserved for treasury legislators – used 71% of its revised allowance of 48 billion rupees, or 35 billion rupees by the end of the financial year.

Now the government is ready to allocate RS1 Billion to the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) in the next budget for 2025-2026. The annual plan coordination committee (APCC) is expected to examine the next PSDP on Monday (today). RS1.4 Billion development expenses were allocated to the PSDP with a public-private partnership, but it was revised twice to 1.25 Billion of rupees, then reduced to Rs1,096 Billion.

During the first 11 months (July to May) 2025-26, the government sanctioned RS0.64 Billions of rupees, whose expenses of components of the roupie for the development budget amounted to 0.47 Billion of rupees in the first 11 months. The exchange component was envisaged at 226 billion rupees for the entire exercise, the use of which amounted to RS0,123 Billions in the first 11 months of CFY.

The sources indicated that the release of funds remained slow in the first half of the CFY, due to which the development regimes could not take momentum.

The government will now allocate the funding of the PSDP of RS1 Billion against the request of the Ministries of RS3 Billion. The Ministry of Town Planning supported the increase in the PSDP to Rs1.6 Billions for the completion of certain current regimes, but ultimately the allowance was proposed to Rs1 Billion.

Initially, the Ministry of Finance had given an indicative budgetary ceiling of RS0,921 Billions, but later, it was increased to Rs1,000 for the next budget.
