- Amazon CEO Andy Jassy urges workers to be “curious about AI”
- It has more than 1,000 AI services and development or use applications
- Genai and Agetic IA could cause job losses on Amazon
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has announced the progress of AI, and the integration of technology in most business operations will likely reduce the company’s workforce over the next five years due to efficiency gains.
In a letter to the workers, CEO Andy Jassy boasted that more than 1,000 AI and area of applications already underway or built, and many others are to come.
Jassy Name has exceeded some of the successful deployments and upcoming deployments, including her new generation Alexa +smart assistant, the AI purchase assistant, seller’s tools and advertiser tools.
Amazon blames AI for future layoffs
In the end, artificial intelligence could eventually change the nature of the work, requiring fewer people in some roles but more in others.
The electronic commerce giant has already dismissed around 27,000 workers since 2022, including recent cuts in the devices, services and divisions of books, but it seems that generalized technological layoffs could be far from finished for the Amazonians.
The AI has also proven by an instrument to allow Amazon to improve its inventory, its forecasts, its effectiveness of the robots and its customer service, but the letter from Jassy has remained consistent with a key theme – a strong accent on improvements in internal productivity thanks to the use of generative and agentic AI.
With capacities covering the completion of tasks, research, code writing and automation of workflow, Jassy sees AI agents is essential for faster innovation and better customer experiences, but the disadvantage is that technology will allow more lean teams to achieve more, which reduces the need for so many workers.
Despite the threat of IA occupying their roles, Jassy urged workers to be “curious” of technology, to experiment and innovate with it, and to advance their learning.
“We will need fewer people who make some of the jobs that are underway today, and more people who make other types of jobs,” said Jassy. “It is difficult to know exactly where it takes place over time, but in the coming years, we expect it to reduce our total business workforce.”
Jassy’s commentary on knowledge in the future is relevant. Although many experts predict that AI could lead to the creation of net work, this could mean that certain companies (such as Amazon) end up reducing their workforce, while others see growth.
