At one point, the players and the rest of the spectators sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

More than 2,000 people were waiting to enter the building. The team was spotted drinking vodka, champagne, tequila and beer all night long. The players reportedly drank more than $150,000 worth of champagne and helped the fans around them stock up on champagne.

American goalkeeper Connor Hellebuyck grabbed the microphone and asked the club spectators to applaud his teammates. He then directed “USA!” songs. Matthew Tkachuk later called Hellebuyck “a savior and Secretary of Defense.”

It was the first gold medal for the United States since 1980, when the “Miracle on Ice” team beat Finland to win the top prize. The team upset the Soviet Union in their semi-final.
