An Air India airplane went to London with more than 240 people on board crashed near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the west city of Ahmedabad in India, a few minutes after taking off from the western city of Ahmedabad in India on Thursday, said the airline and the police, without specifying if there were deaths.
The plane was heading for Gatwick airport in the United Kingdom, said Air India, while police said that it had crashed into a civil area near the airport.
The Flightradar24 aviation site followed that the plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, one of the most modern passenger planes in service.
“Right now, we are checking the details and sharing other updates,” said Air India on X.
The accident occurred when the plane takes off, reported the television channels. A channel showed that the plane took off on a residential area, then disappearing from the screen before a huge cloud of fire rises in the sky beyond the houses.
The visuals have also shown fire debris, with thick black smoke rising in the sky near the airport. They also showed visuals of people displaced in civilians and abducted in ambulances.
A total of 242 people were on board the flight, press agency Ani reported, citing the police control room from the state of Gujarat.

According to air traffic control at Ahmedabad airport, the plane left at 1:39 p.m. local time (0809 GMT) on track 23. He gave a “Mayday” call, signaling an emergency, but thereafter no, there was no response from the plane.
Flighttradar24 also said that he had received the latest signal from the plane after taking off.
“The plane involved is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with the registration VT-ANB,” he said.
Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
The last fatal plane accident in India involved Air India Express, the low -cost arm of the airline.
The airline’s Boeing-737 has exceeded a “table of table” track at Kozhikode International Airport in the south of India in 2020. The plane skidded the track, plunging into a valley and crashing in the ground and killing 21 people.
