WNBA players, Angel Reese and Dijonai Carrington, explained the criticisms led by the new fans of the League during an episode of the Reese podcast, “shameless Angel” on Friday.
The two players were the subject of hard comments from the fans after controversial interactions with the Caitlin Clark phenomenon.
Reese faced criticism for his interactions with Clark dating from the NCAA 2023 women’s basketball championship match, when Reese underlined his finger after driving LSU to the title on Iowa Hawkeys of Clark.
In 2024, Reese and some of his Chicago Sky teammates committed a series of controversial faults on Clark during four WNBA meetings.

“It is difficult, especially since two black women are not apologized, we will make our s-and say what we have to say. And I stand on what we said. I have the impression that it is really difficult,” said Reese in the Friday show on the criticism she receives.
Carrington faced an intense reaction after giving Clark an eye for black butter with his nail during a meeting in the playoffs between Clark fever in Indiana and the previous Carrington team, Connecticut Sun, in September. Carrington also spoke out against Clark and its fans base.

“They are really cowardly in their mouths,” said Carrington about his criticism. “I know they think they are trolls, but they are not only trolls. They are people we see in real life.”
But for Reese and Carrington, some of the comments that disturb them most are those concerning their appearance.
“I hate when people say that:” Oh, she is too worried about her makeup and her hair and eyelashes and nails and her outfits, “said Reese.
Carrington said that she was not so disturbed when people say she pays too much attention to her appearance, but she said she “hates” when people wonder why she has blond hair.

“I hate when people talk about it, like” why do you have blond hair? “” Said Carrington. “I have black eyebrows. I have the hair of the black arm, black hair hair … and I don’t care. I’m always a natural blonde.”
Reese then said that even if players like her and Carrington are criticized for having put too much effort with female appearance, some WNBA players are also criticized to look too masculine.
“They complain and say that WNBA players are too virile, not female enough. We don’t dressed cute enough. They don’t want to watch a pile of little boys running around.
“‘I don’t look at this masculine wnba, long shorts, they wear braids. They all love each other. They are all out. This is not true,” said Reese, laughing at the fact that Carrington comes out with his compatriot of the WNBA Nalyssa Smith.
“I don’t understand, like D — I can’t put a little lip brilliance?” Reese added.

Despite these complaints, Reese may have indirectly involved his feelings about the appearance of Clark. At one point in the interview, Reese listed the “bad guys” of the WNBA, which is the urban slang for a confident, elegant and attractive person.
“They knew who were the bad guys, you [Carrington]Me, Cameron [Brink]Kia [Nurse]”Said Reese.
Reese left Clark on this list.
However, at no time of the episode, Carrington or Reese were in any way to Clark.
