- Anker has just published two separate reminders for some of its best electricity banks, covering a total of six models
- Some of the electricity banks could present a risk of fire
- If you qualify, you may be able to get a whole new food bank for free
Anker has just announced its second product recall this year – and although this is bad news for the brand, there could be a silver lining for you. If you have one of Anker’s power banks, you may be eligible for a free replacement.
The company recalls six different food models, citing problems with the lithium-ion battery inside. This includes models from the Power Core, Maggo and Zolo of Anker’s Power series, among others.
Below, we will tell you everything you need to know about the Anker Food Bank reminders and what to do next.
Which anker power banks are affected by the recall?
Anker launched two separate reminders. At the beginning of June included a unique electric banking model, while the most recent widened the list by five additional models on a few ranges of Anker products.
The electricity bank which was recalled first was the Anker PowerCore 10000 (A1263). If you bought the food bank via Amazon, you would have received an email like the one we received below. The object line would have been “attention: an important security notice on your previous Amazon order”.
Not all PowerCore 10000 food banks have not been recalled. The units recalled only include the A1263 model, manufactured between January 1, 2016 and October 30, 2019. All the units recalled were sold in the United States between June 1, 2016 and December 31, 2022.
The second reminder was more complete and included the following models:
- Anker Zolo Model A1681 (20k, 30 Watt, with integrated USB-C and Lightning cables)
- Anker Zolo Model A1689 (20k, 30 Watt, with integrated USB-C cable)
- Anker Maggo Model A1652 (7.5 watt, 10,000 mAh)
- Anker Power Bank Model A1257 (10k, 22.5 watt)
- Anker Power Bank Model A1647 (22.5 Watt, 20,000mAh, with integrated USB-C cable)
In these cases, Anker did not specify a date of manufacturing or sale for affected electricity banks. But in his opinion of “voluntary recall” referring to the above models, he declared that “although the probability of malfunction is considered minimal, by abundance of caution, we decided to initiate a voluntary global recall of several models of Anker Power Bank”.
How to check if your Anker feed bank has been recalled
It doesn’t matter which ones affected models you have, your first step will be to check the model and serial number at the rear or on the side of your feed bank.
All the units of each model are not recalled, so even if you have one, it may not be eligible for replacement.
Then, you will have to enter the serial number, as well as some other key details, on the Anker online recall form in order to check the eligibility.
If it is confirmed as one of the affected models, you must stop using it immediately and subject a product recall form. This contains information on how to request a gift card or a replacement.
What can you get if your electric bank is eligible?
If your electricity bank is assigned by one of the reminders, Anker will offer you a replacement or a gift card. In the United States, people will not receive reimbursements, although Anker offers reimbursements in China.
In the case of the Power Core 10000, Anker says that you receive a replacement feed bank. If it is on the rear command, you can either choose a gift card of $ 30 instead (to be used at the Anker store) or wait for the Power Core 10000 or again available.
The second reminder is slightly more vague, but Anker says that you can choose between a gift card or a replacement unit.
How to submit a recall complaint
Once you are sure that you have one of the models listed above, submit your recall complaint to Anker for verification.
- If you have the Anker Power Core 1000 (A1263), go to the Anker’s reminder form for this model
- If you have one of the other electricity banks (A1257, A1647, A1652, A1681, A1689), access this recall form instead.
In both cases, you can be asked for the serial number, proof of purchase, order number and photos of the food bank.
If it fails, but you still think that you are eligible for replacement, contact the Anker support on live cat, email or phone.
Why are Anker’s electricity banks recalled?
Anker has not entered many details on the cause of the recall, but in both cases, it seems that the problem lies in the battery.
When announce the first recallAnker said these electricity banks could be a risk of fire due to a “potential problem with the lithium-ion battery”. It seems that the battery can overheat, and if this happens, some plastic components can melt, causing smoke or even a fire.
In the case of second reminderAnker revealed that it identified a potential problem with the lithium-ion battery cells made by one of its suppliers. The company admits that problems are unlikely, but it is careful and remembers the five models affected.
Can you always use your old food bank?
Once it is confirmed that your electricity bank is affected by the recall, you must stop using it immediately. Even if it seems to work very well, it presents a risk of fire, so you must arrange it as soon as possible.
Anker says that you should not eliminate the battery “in general recycling streams, for example (for example, recycling bins on the street or street), or in used battery deposit boxes commonly found in retail or renovation stores”.
Instead, Anker recommends throwing it into a local electronic elimination installation which accepts the recalled devices powered by lithium-ion batteries. Indeed, the batteries recalled must be treated differently to those regular due to their risk of higher fire.
