Rawalpindi:
The security forces managed to thwart a terrorist infiltration attempt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the northern Waziristan district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), killing eight terrorists and injuring four others, the army said in a statement on Sunday.
According to inter-service public relations (ISPR), the army media wing, a group of “Khwarij”-a term used for terrorists affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-tried to enter the Hassan Khel region during the night. Their effort was thwarted after an intense exchange of fire with the security forces.
“The night of April 5/6, the movement of a group of Khwarij, trying to infiltrate through the Pakistani-Afghanistan border, was recovered by the security forces in the general area of Hassan Khel, district of northern Waziristan,” the ISPR said in a statement.
“The own troops were actually committed and thwarted their attempted infiltration. After an intense fire exchange, eight Khwarij were sent to hell, while four Khwarij were injured. A disinfection operation is underway to eliminate any other Kharji found in the region,” he added.
Pakistan has always asked the Acting Afghan government to ensure effective border management on their side of the border and to fulfill its obligations by refusing Afghan soil use by terrorists to perpetuate acts of terrorism against Pakistan.
According to the ISPR declaration, Pakistan security forces have been determined and remain determined to secure the country’s borders and eliminate the country’s threat.
Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist activities in recent weeks. In Khyber -Pakhtunkhwa alone, terrorist attacks cost the life of 152 and injured 302 others – including police, security personnel and civilians – during the first quarter of 2025, according to a quarterly report published by KP police.
The report pointed out that civilians brought the weight of violence, with 45 killed and 127 injured between January and March 2025. The police were lost 37 officials, with 46 other injured, while the body front (FC) underwent 34 deaths and 43 injuries, added the report.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the security forces for thwarting the attempted intrusion in northern Waziristan and killing eight terrorists in a timely manner.
In a statement, President Zardari said the brave armed forces in Pakistan were determined to protect the country’s borders 24 hours a day. “Operations against terrorists would continue until the full threat of terrorism,” he added.
In a separate official statement, the Prime Minister praised the “quick and decisive response” of officers and staff, who managed to repel the attempt of the terrorists to enter Pakistan. He recognized their exceptional performance to eliminate eight terrorists.
“The officers and the staff of our security forces have foiled the harmful conceptions of the Khawarij to spread chaos inside Pakistan,” he said. Our officers and soldiers are tirelessly engaged day and night to counter any attempted mischief and ensure the security and sovereignty of the country, “he added.
The Prime Minister stressed that the armed forces of Pakistan remained vigilant and fully committed to defending the borders of the nation. He expressed his full confidence in the ability and dedication of security forces, reaffirming government determination to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.
