Boxing champion Anthony Joshua was among those injured in a fatal car crash in Nigeria on Monday, officials said.
Joshua was in the back seat of a vehicle traveling on the Ogun-Lagos highway when the accident, which left two people dead, occurred, according to several reports. Nigerian officials said Joshua suffered minor injuries and was otherwise “fine.”

“Joshua was sitting behind the driver, with another person next to him,” an eyewitness told Nigerian newspaper The Punch. “There was also a passenger seated next to the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. Their security guards were in the vehicle behind them before the crash.”
Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunwalo told ESPN that a tire on Joshua’s vehicle “burst”, causing his driver to collide with an idling truck parked along the road.

Joshua is the son of British Nigerian parents. He spent time at a Nigerian boarding school when he was younger, but returned to Britain after his parents divorced.
He competed in a show against Jake Paul earlier this month. He knocked out Paul in their fight, earning the 29th victory of his professional career.
Joshua is a three-time heavyweight champion. He has held the WBA Super Heavyweight Championship, the IBF Heavyweight Championship and the WBO Heavyweight Championship. He lost his titles to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021.
