- People located in Austin in the San Fran’s Bay region can join a waiting list
- Android users will be supported on a later date
- Tesla extends the Robotaxi service area but puts the safety driver in the driver’s seat
Tesla took Elon Musk’s X social media platform To announce the fact that its Robotaxi smartphone application has now been opened to anyone with an Apple iPhone, because the project goes beyond a carefully organized list of vips and Tesla’s first adopters to the wider public.
Fresh at the rear of the recent news according to which the company extended its presence to Austin, Texas once again, by increasing the size of its geofisted operating area and adding more cars to the fleet, Tesla says that the carpooling application is now open to the public.
Currently, all iPhone users in the United States can download the application and register to reach a waiting list. But it is not known how long it will take before users can do a driving, whether or not the service extends beyond Austin to San Francisco or the number of vehicles that the company currently works.
So far, Tesla has only publicly declared that it had increased the number of cars available by 50%, according to A post X in August this year.
Tesla also states that Android users will be able to download a dedicated Robotaxi application in the coming months.
Safety in the driver’s seat
The opening of the application to the public is clearly an indicator that Tesla seriously concerns the expansion of its service, but the company was particularly creditor on figures and achievements.
Now Tesla has expanded its operating area beyond the slow streets of the city center to faster sections of the highway, it clearly considered it necessary to have an operator on the hot seat in case they should take over during faster and more dangerous road sections.
As Electk points out, Tesla Robotaxi is only a “circulation of complete autonomous demonstration (FSD) on a larger scale” at the moment, rather than a really autonomous taxi service.
If you want one, it is best to download the Waymo application, as it has more than 2,000 fully autonomous vehicles operating in six large cities and regions in the United States … without anyone behind the wheel.
