Apple could be about to make a major change in the way it calls its operating systems

  • A new Bloomberg report says that Apple will change the way it has its operating systems
  • The change will be to correspond to the year, so not iOS 19 but iOS 26
  • It is said that the change will also be for iPados, MacOS, Watchos, Tvos and Visionos

With only 12 days before the kick -off of Apple WWDC 2025 on June 9, 2025, with an opening speech, rumors and reports are hot on what the technology giant could announce. Given that it is the global conference of developers, we expect the CEO Tim Cook and a multitude of leaders to guide us through the next generation of platforms.

Until a new report, we were fully expecting os 19 and iPados 19, the next generation of macOS with a unique place in California, giving it a name and new versions of Watchos, Tvos and Visionos, all amount of a single number.

According to Mark Gurman from BloombergHowever, Apple could launch a curve ball and abandon the concept of appointing the software by the next generation issue. The report indicates that instead of revealing iOS 19, the successor of iOS 18, Apple will present iOS 26.

“The next Apple operating systems will be identified per year, rather than a version number,” said the report. In addition to iOS, jumping to 26, it seems that Apple could deploy the iPados 26, MacOS 26, Watchos 26, Tvos 26, and perhaps the most shocking, Visionos 26. The latter would be the most important jump, because we are currently only visionos 2, and the pro vision as a whole is not an aging device.
