- There is a new Apple support doc on AirPods updates
- Spoiler: you already do it correctly
- If things go wrong, try again, try again
Apple AirPods, Airpods Pro and Airpods are not like the other Apple products: where iPhones, Ipads and Mac update their software via a visible and simple process, Apple headphones are more mysterious. Or at least, they were so far.
Finally, Apple said what you need to do to update the best AirPods of all kinds. And it’s simple: wait for a full moon, take out your pockets three times and dance the airpods dance update. If you have been good, the Airpods gods will smile at you and bless your buds.
Well, not quite. But even with clarification, it’s always a bit opaque.
How to update the software in AirPods, AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Max
Apple has updated its AirPods Firmware support (via verg) page to explain exactly how to perform an AirPods or AirPods Max Firmware update. And the steps are:
- You must be in the Bluetooth beach of your iPhone, iPad or Mac, and this device must be connected to Wi-Fi.
- For headphones: Place them in the load case and close the cover. Connect the load case to a charger or USB port.
- For AirPods Max: connect the load cable to the right earphones and connect the other end to A in a charger or USB port.
- Wait 30 minutes.
- Reconnect your headphones or headphones on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
I am a little sarcastic but there is new information here: I was aware of all the steps, but I did not know that it could take up to 30 minutes for the update to be finished, which explains can -Itre why I was annoyed by the firmware updates, I knew I knew, but that did not settle when I wanted.
Although the new information is practical, it would be good if there was a notification to let you know that your update was complete; For the moment, you must always enter the Bluetooth settings and manually check the firmware version to see if it has been updated. Maybe Apple will add a notification in a future iOS update.
