- Three other macbooks are now considered obsolete
- 11 -inch MacBook Air 2015 and MacBook Pros of 2017 (13 inch and 15 inches)
- Apple does not repair obsolete technology, although it can always replace the battery
Apple has just declared that three of its MacBook are now obsolete – a designation it attributes to its technology a little after having been seven years (from the moment the technology was available to buy, not when you specifically bought it).
These newly designated MacBooks are 11 -inch MacBook Air 2015, as well as the MacBook Pros of 2017 (13 inches and 15 inches).
It is not a surprise as I pointed out a few years ago when these laptops were declared “vintage” by Apple – the first step towards the obsolete rendering.
But this announcement recalls that it is time to retire this machine (or almost a decade) and to replace it with something new. If you are looking for advice on what you should choose next, consult our guides to the best MacBooks and Macs or the best laptops (if you are not so married to Apple).
As the Apple website explains, it will not serve the equipment of obsolete gadgets, and service providers will no longer be able to order parts for them either.
This means that when your obsolete apple product breaks, it is broken for good, unless you can recover a part of another machine – or have the chance to find a repair workshop with a supply of old parts.
For MacBooks, the only exception is that Apple sometimes offers an extended battery repair system up to 10 years (depending on the availability of parts). There is therefore a chance that you can have your old laptop spends a little longer, but do not count on it, because you may be lucky if Appleās battery supply has been set.
Although we hope you could have upgraded your technology earlier than this designation during distribution because none of these MacBooks has supported the latest version of MacOS for a few cycles. This means that your aging laptop could be at a higher safety risk.
Beyond that, you will also miss all that the latest generation of MacOS Tahoe 26 has to offer – including the new Snazzy look “Liquid Glass”.
