- Apple previously played with the idea of launching its own public cloud powered by the chips of the M series
- The chips of the M series already form the foundations of the calculation of the private cloud and more
- The ACDC project leader left in 2023 and the future of the project is uncertain
Apple previously planned to launch its own cloud services to compete with key hypersCaling alternatives like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, but apparently fired the idea.
A report of Information Notes The initiative would have been known as Project ACDC (Apple fleas in data centers) and would have given developers access to Apple M.
Apple would have targeted to offer a cheaper and more effective alternative to traditional cloud platforms which use intel or GPU servers by replacing them with its own M chips M, which are known for their computer efficiency and their strong AI inference capacities.
Apple would have liked to launch an AWS rival
Apple already uses its m-series chip applications beyond its Mac and iPad range-it has started testing its chips in data centers with the launch of Private Cloud Compute (CCC), which manages complex AI requests when the power processing power is not sufficient.
Other Apple services, like Siri, photos and music, have also had access to the fleas in the M series to improve performance through things like research.
These efforts may be possible to underpin Siri’s improved well-necessary improved version.
With potential plans to launch the service to developers via its team of relations with developers, rather than creating a new sales team, the ACDC project would largely be an apple initiative, allowing developers to design iOS and macOS applications directly on Apple chips, reducing dependence on expensive GPU.
Michael Abbott, the executive previously behind the ACDC project, left the company in 2023, but the discussions would have continued at least in early 2024. The future of the project remains uncertain.
However, Apple previously indicated a desire to generate income from services, and the ACDC project could certainly align with this.
He could also help Apple reduce the costs of its own development, the company spent $ 7 billion a year on third -party cloud services (via Apple initiate).
