- Siri d’Apple’s eagerly awaited upgrade would arrive at “spring 2026”
- A new report by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg claims that Siri, supplied by Apple Intelligence, is planned for an iOS 26.4 version
- A year is long in the AI world. Is it too long to wait?
While WWDC 2025 is coming to an end, a new report says that Apple’s main Siri upgrade, fueled by Apple Intelligence, is expected to be launched in “spring 2026”.
According to Mark Gurman, writing for Bloomberg, Apple “set an internal liberation target of spring 2026 for its delayed upgrade of Siri, marking a key step in its effort to recovery of artificial intelligence”.
Earlier this week, the company presented the future of iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro software, modifying the denomination scheme to correspond to the year to which the operating system corresponds. The nickname of “26” of iOS, iPados, MacOS, Watchos and Visionos includes all the features of AI, but the most anticipated of Apple is always missing.
Gurman claims that the Siri upgrade, which will allow the vocal assistant to have an awareness of the screen and a personal context, is now planned for iOS 26.4, which, based on the previous software versions, should arrive around March or April of next year.
Gurman’s sources told him that an exact date had not been set internally, “beyond a spring period”. It should also be noted that this period could change, especially if we given that Siri propelled by AI was supposed to be launched as part of iOS 18 and was initially unveiled at WWDC 2024.
Is Siri’s turmoil finished?
Last year was difficult for Apple, to say the least. The company based in Cupertino presented Apple Intelligence in June 2024, stressing how “AI for the rest of us” was going to change the way iPhone users interact with their smartphones.
Unfortunately, Apple Intelligence’s features that have launched, such as Genmoji, writing tools and visual intelligence, have all received a somewhat lukewarm response while users expect in anticipation of the truly revolutionary IA Siri that has been promised.
My colleague Lance Ulanoff spoke with the main vice-president of Apple software engineering, Craig Federighi, and Apple’s global vice-president of Marketing Greg Joswiak after the WWDC 2025 portfolio earlier this week.
During the interview (which you can read and watch here), Federighi said: “We have set ourselves for months, which means that Siri works better and more in application intentions, better and better to do the research,” added Federighi. “But fundamentally, we found that the limits of V1 architecture did not bring us to the level of quality we know our customers and we expect.” This led Apple to postpone the release of Siri’s major upgrade in March this year.
Now we have a clearer idea to know when we expect the overhaul of Siri Apple Intelligence, although it is almost a year, and a year in the world of AI is incredibly long.
By “Spring 2026”, did Apple competitors like Google and Openai open the even wider gap? And if this is the case, will Apple have put all this effort in an AI solution which simply becomes Bloatware on an iPhone when users choose to use Gemini Live or Chatgpt Advanced Vocal Advanced Mode?
The “spring 2026” is only an estimate, but this must be the last possible arrival for an upgrade if necessary from Siri; Any additional delay, and I think that Apple’s loyal user base could become even more frustrated by Tim Cook and Co.
