Appointment of teacher as exam controller sparks backlash

Almost all education boards in Sindh have vacancies of examination controllers, board secretaries and audit officers.

KARACHI:

The Sindh Universities and Boards Department has reportedly started preparations to appoint an undergraduate teacher as controller of examinations at Inter Board Karachi, marking the second such controversial move in two months. The appointment is being considered based on an application submitted by the teacher, who is currently serving as a Grade 18 assistant teacher in a government college in Quaidabad. The position of Examination Controller, however, is a Grade 19 position.

Sources say the deputation of the concerned teacher to the Inter Board is being processed, with a no-objection certificate (NOC) sought from the College Education Department. The Inter Board Karachi was also reportedly consulted for comments on the matter.

According to the authorities, this is not the first time that such irregular displays have occurred. Previously, a director of inspection from the Larkana Board was temporarily transferred to the Karachi Inter Board, only for the decision to be reversed once the error was recognized.
