The deadline for the end of the end of the life of Windows 10 is almost on our doors. Next month, October 14, 2025, Microsoft will stop the management of Windows 10, which means more functionalities or safety updates for the operating system.
If you are running a Windows 10 PC and you haven’t thought about your options yet, you have to start doing it – and quickly. In just over a few weeks, this deadline will be there, and the last official security update will be sent for Windows 10.
So what are your choices at this stage? This is what I am going to go to this article, considering some options: make sure you cannot go to Windows 11 (it is worth checking one thing, assuming that you are going to SOS more recent, if you could), take advantage of free updates for another year – and finally, stay on Windows 10 without support.
The latter is really not recommended, and I will understand why it is the case when we come to this option, but it is always a (perilous) path that some may consider.
Check to make sure you certainly can’t go to Windows 11
First of all, you can hate the idea of Windows 11 and not want to upgrade at all – in which case, stop reading this part now and go to the next section. However, assuming that you would go to Windows 11 if possible, but you cannot because of the satisfaction of your PC, it is not worth checking one thing.
Although Windows Update, or the Health Check PC application, may tell you that you cannot go to Windows 11 because your system does not meet the requirements of TPM 2.0, which may not be true. Your computer may have this security feature, but it is simply not excited. In some cases, you can activate TPM 2.0 in the BIOS, and you should certainly check – follow this explanator to do so.
If you can activate TPM 2.0, you should now (hope) be able to switch to Windows 11 before the support is exhausted for Windows 10. Otherwise, continue to explore the other options below.
At the last minute, Microsoft changed its offer from an additional year of free support for Windows 10, removing all strings for those who live in Europe.
If that includes you, all you have to do is go to Windows Update, where you should see a link to register for the extended safety updates just under the option to check the updates. Click on the “Register” button and follow the instructions. If you are a Windows 10 user in the European economic field (EEE), all you have to do is make sure you have a Microsoft account.
Everyone outside Europe will have to synchronize their PC settings with Microsoft to obtain the additional year of free support for Windows 10.
The process is the same as above – access Windows Update and search for the option to register for extended security updates (it’s just in the place where you check the updates). Click on the “Register” button, then follow the instructions, but in this case, you will need to use the Windows backup application to synchronize your PC settings on OneDrive (Locker Cloud Storage of Microsoft).
If you do not want to synchronize your Windows 10 computer settings on Microsoft OneDrive, you can simply pay for the additional year of free support.
Again, use the “ “ register ‘button in Windows Update (as described above) to do this, but choose one of the payment options – you can pay $ 30 (or the regional equivalent), or spend 1000 Microsoft Rewards points (assuming, of course, that you have a lot).
Stay just on Windows 10 without any update
If you do not want to pay anything Microsoft, you don’t trust the company, and so you don’t want to synchronize content on your PC with its cloud storage, you might be tempted to continue diving with Windows 10 less updates.
In other words: don’t do that.
It may seem that everything will be fine, and for a while, you can be. Who knows is a dice roll, frankly. However, these monthly security updates that all the others have registered for prolonged support will obtain are essential to ensure the safety and safety of any PC.
Indeed, as every month passes, more and more vulnerabilities will appear in Windows 10. And without security updates, they will remain unlike, which means that hackers could potentially exploit these holes in the operating system. The more time there is, the more the exploits will remain open, the more likely it is that you can be the prey of a harmful type. And let’s not be mistaken, there are people who will actively try to find Windows 10 systems not corrected to compromise.
And if you think that Microsoft “ ning in your company ” by synchoning your PC settings is bad, it is really nothing compared to what the horror could be visited on you if a hacker manages to use your computer, maybe malware on your system. It should also be recalled that you do not synchronize the PC settings to Microsoft servers to obtain prolonged support – not your personal data (and none of this applies to those in Europe anyway, as indicated, so people in this region have really no excuse).
Overall, this is not a road you want to take, and whatever you do, do not procrastinate and simply continue to miss with an unprotected and unprotected copy of Windows 10.
