HYDERABAD:
As armed tribal clashes continue unabated in Sukkur and Larkana divisions, human casualties are increasing. Five men were shot dead in two separate incidents in Khairpur district on Thursday. A long-running blood feud between the Ulra and Jatoi clans in the Prialo region left four people dead and several others injured, including a passerby belonging to a minority community.
Three of the deceased belonged to the Ulra caste, while one was from the Jatoi clan.
They were identified as Majid Ulro, Dhani Bux Ulro, Gullan Ulro and Azam Jatoi.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Faiz Muhammad Bandho police station in a riverside village.
Local residents reported that the exchange of fire between the two sides continued for more than an hour, until the arrival of a large contingent of police. Hafiz Ghulam Abbass Ulro told media that their men were sowing wheat on Thursday morning when the Jatois allegedly launched an unprovoked attack.
District SSP Sardar Hassan Niazi said five suspects have been arrested, while searches for others are underway. Several police pickets were established in the area to prevent further clashes.
The suspects reportedly fled the locality after locking up their houses. The deceased and injured were taken to a government hospital in Pir Jo Goth, where autopsies were conducted. The police had not registered an FIR for the incident in the evening.
In another incident on Thursday, a young man was killed and a child injured in an armed encounter between members of the Ujjan and Kaleri castes in Khairpur’s Khuhra area. Mian Imamuddin Ujjan, 20, was killed in the shooting, while Majir Ujjan, six, was injured. The Ujjans blamed the Kaleris for the attack.
Ameer Ali Chaang, SHO of Khuhra police station, confirmed that police from several stations were called in to contain the violence. The deceased and injured child was transferred to GIMS hospital. By evening, the FIR of this incident had also not been registered.
