- Asahi Japanese distribution centers and customer services are offline
- No group of ransomware has yet claimed the responsibility of the attack
- Recent cyber attacks have cost millions of high -level companies
The largest Japanese brewery, Asahi Group Holdings, has become the last company on a list of alarming victims who experienced a cyber attack that forced it to close work.
The attack seems to have only affected the company’s domestic operations, international branches not affected so far – but it has still left Asahi without choice to suspend orders and expeditions across Japan.
In addition to the distribution center, call centers and customer service offices have also been released.
Asahi struck by cyber attack, still online internationally
Asahi holds about a third of the Japan market to interior beer, but it has a world range through its other brands, notably Peroni, Pilsner Urquell, Grolsch and Fuller.
However, Japan represents about half of Asahi’s profits, which makes the disturbance particularly impactful, even if the company manages to contain it at the national level.
“We are actively studying the cause and working to restore operations; however, there is currently no estimated calendar for the recovery,” the company said in a press release. “System failure is limited to our operations in Japan.”
“We are actively studying the cause and working to restore operations; however, there is currently no estimated calendar for recovery,” added Asahi.
Currently, no ransomware gang has taken credit from the attack.
But the story of Asahi is only a small part of a much greater global trend. An anterior M&S attack attributed to Spottered Spider has kept certain offline systems for four months, the benefits of the financial year should be reduced by 300 million pounds sterling.
A more recent attack on Jaguar Land Rover has paused for the manufacture of new cars, the company still restoring systems.
For the moment, Asahi has not shared more details. This could take weeks of investigation and recovery to fully restore systems, and it is if the attackers cannot move laterally and affect the global operations of Asahi.
