Ubisoft revealed that Shadows of Assassin’s Creed will feature more than 700 cutscenes, but he stressed that it won’t be all “chatter.”
Speaking to TechRadar Gaming during a recent Shadows of Assassin’s Creed During the preview, director of production David Nibbelin said that the development team focused heavily on these cutscenes and that it seemed important for players to connect with the game’s protagonist, Naoe. and Yasuke, between combat and exploration of the open world.
“We needed to find a way to make sure the cutscenes were compelling content that the player actually wanted to put down the controller and enjoy,” Nibellin said. “So for us, when we look at cutscenes, we can’t just think of them as telling a story. It sounds a little silly, but what we want you to do is we want you to feel these scenes.
“We want you to think of them not just as what happens next, but as a moment, to recognize the consequences, to think about the choices you made as a player through gameplay or through selections, to actually get an emotional reward, so you can connect with the player the characters you’re playing as.
Nibellin went on to say that these cutscenes will allow players “to connect to the characters themselves on a deeper level” and that the team approached this idea by presenting “two perspectives of Japan through the eyes of our protagonists” .
“When you think about Naoe and Yasuke, you think we have two very different perspectives on this world,” he said. “Yasuke who comes to see the cream of the crop, the highest level of the elite. He meets Oda Nobunaga, then Naoe, a farmer’s daughter in the hills of Iga, she sees him from a completely different side.. .
“It is easy to see great armies and great people and think [of] the more generic historical context, but how did the arrival of these two experiences take place in this world? So when you connect through the story, it has to come through them. »
The developer also announced that players will be able to experience Naoe and Yasuke’s personal stories, their family dynamics, and how they both deal with loss and romance, all while being firmly rooted in Japanese tradition.
Shadows of Assassin’s Creed was delayed earlier this month and is now scheduled to launch on March 20 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
