  • Islamabad calls Delhi to strictly comply with his legal obligations.
  • The CSNU must play a role against violations of the law of the world, explains diplomat.

United Nations: A Upper Pakistani diplomat denounced India’s “malicious conceptions” to hinder the guaranteed water flow in Pakistan under the 1960s water Treaty and called New Delhi to refrain from stopping, diverting or finding the rivers downstream.

“We will never accept such movements,” said Usman Jadoon, an assistant permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN ambassador, USMAN Jadoon, to the United Nations Security Council (USC), “ Water Protective in armed conflicts ”, highlighting the attempt at India to water.

Arria formula meetings are informal which allow members of the Security Council to have a frank exchange and deprived of points of view on relevant subjects.

The meeting of the council of 15 members on the “water protection in armed conflicts” was summoned by Slovenia, in cooperation with Algeria, Panama, Sierra Leone, and the world alliance to save water from armed conflicts.

The opening of the debate, the Secretary of State of Slovenia, Melita Gabric, stressed the essential role that the protection of water and related infrastructures during armed conflicts plays in the safeguard of civil lives, saying: “The protection of civilians and civil objects under international humanitarian law is non -negotiable.”

The CSNU forum held the discussion on the protection of water infrastructure following New Delhi threats to cut Islamabad water flow. After the murderous attack of April against tourists illegally occupied the Jammu and the Jammu-Cachemire pahalgam (iiojk) that India criticizes Islamabad, New Delhi, “observed” of his participation in the Indus Water Treaty in 1960.

Pakistan denied its participation in the incident, but the agreement was not relaunched despite the two nuclear neighbors who accelerate on a ceasefire earlier this month after the worst fights for them for decades.

In his remarks, the Pakistani envoy stressed that attacks against water resources, related infrastructure and the denial of access to these resources constitute a blatant violation of established standards, and largely accepted principles, noting that the UNSC has also reaffirmed these principles and strongly condemned the denial of access and deprive civilians of essential objects.

“India’s decision to suspend illegally and unilaterally the Industry Water Treaty in 1960 (IWT), aimed at hindering the guaranteed water flow in Pakistan under the treaty, is a serious violation of international law, including human rights law, the law of the treaty and customary international law,” said ambassador Jadoon.

“The disturbing statements of the Indian management to” starve the people of Pakistan “depict a very dangerous and perverse thought,” he said.

“We strongly condemn the illegal announcement of India to hold the in suspense treaty and invoke India to strictly comply with its legal obligations and to refrain from stopping, diverting or restricting the rivers which are a lifeline for 240 million people from Pakistan.”

He urged the CSNU must play a role by identifying situations where violations of international law, including the international principles of humanitarian law (DIH), could compromise peace and security or lead to a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, and act in a preventive manner.

In conclusion, Ambassador Jadoon supported calls for compliance with DIH and international human rights laws, in particular for the protection of water resources and related infrastructures.
