Transparent screens on devices such as smartphones and tablets have long been a must for science fiction films and television shows because they look good, even if they are not always practical. Now, however, they are starting to become a reality.
The Taiwanese display manufacturer Auo (at Optronics Corporation), which was formed in 2001 thanks to the fusion of Acer Display technology and the UNIPAC Optoelectronics Corporation, demonstrated a display of micro LED transparent with double -sided Touch Taiwan 2025.
This first display of the genre is a thin 17.3 inch screen which offers a transparent experience on both sides and can present different content according to the viewing angle.
For use on planes and houses
The screen can display separate images or data on each side, and AUO suggests that a possible use case is found in first -class airline cabins, where passengers and on -board agents can each see their own interfaces.
The AUO demo included a translation interface, presenting a seamless multilingual communication via the screen itself. Commercial scenarios such as store windows, museum exhibitions and digital signaling are also considered natural adjustments to technology.
The ultra-thin design, combined with transparent micro LED technology, represents a passage from the use of traditional display to something closer to ambient computers.
Unlike transparent OLEDs to one side, which often fight with the brightness and clarity of the image in direct light, AUO micro LED technology offers higher brightness and color performance – to overcome many of these limits.
Auo has not revealed when it expects the screen to production, and it did not give a pricing index, although it is fair to say that the screens will not be cheap.
A video published on YouTube shows the screen used at the 50 second brand.
