Aurat March worries about “increase in kidnappings”

KARACHI:

Organizers of the Aurat March have expressed serious concerns over increasing incidents of alleged kidnapping of minor girls in Karachi.

Speaking at a press conference at the KPC, social activist Sheema Kermani demanded that the government ensure the safe return of abducted Baloch women and children, including Nasreen Baloch and Mahjabeen Baloch, and immediately release the minors and disabled people in captivity.

A heavy police presence was observed around the CPK in anticipation of the press conference. Kermani alleged that police attempted to block the entrance to the venue, using force against the activists. She also accused police of arresting Seema Din Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, and imposing movement restrictions in the area.

Kermani highlighted the alarming rise in suspected enforced disappearances, noting that girls as young as 14 or 15 are being abducted – a problem she described as getting worse by the day.
