NBN CO has today published its end -of -year financial results. In addition to the publication of an increase in income, the results reveal an increase in leveling of fiber to the type of connection of the premises (FTTP), finally exceeding connection technology previously – and less than the connection technology of the node (FTTN).
More specifically, NBN CO claims that there are now 2.66 million FTTP connections active in Australia, compared to 2.17 million to June 30, 2024. Conversely, FTTN connections experienced a constant decline over the same period, going from just over 2.78 million to the end of FY 2024 to around 2.5 million at the time of writing.
Why is it so interesting and important? This is because FTTP connections offer access to the fastest NBN plans and it is the only type of connection available for customers who are currently connecting via copper -based technology and want to take advantage of free NBN speed upgrades in September.
Premises that connect coaxial hybrid fiber fiber technology (HFC) are also able to take advantage of incoming speed increases, but technology is available as an upgrade for people in copper -based infrastructure.
Why need the speed upgrade?
If this is the first time that you have heard the upgrades of speed offered, then in short, houses that connect to the NBN network with a fixed line via FTTP or HFC will be able to access the brand new NBN 500, NBN 750 and NBN 2000 Plans from September, which offer a NBN 1000 (which is an increase in its minimum speed) to offer a range of Super Fast Wired Internet options.
At a time when we demand more from our internet connection at home – NBN CO says that the average Australian cleaning has 25 connected devices – the need for faster speeds and the more important bandwidth is more widespread than ever. Improved plans will be able to deliver the two counts.
Over the past three years, NBN CO’s mission is to make the Fixed Fixed Network older based on copper eligible for upgrade to the FTTP at no cost. The vast majority of houses should be eligible for free upgrade by December this year, the 622,000 houses remaining on copper connections which should slowly become eligible by 2030.
What are the best NBN plans at high speed to get today?
If the idea of faster download speeds seems exciting and you have not yet taken advantage of the free upgrade of the fibers, you will be happy to know that you are not short of fantastic options. We have already seen some suppliers launching NBN 500 plans before the official Deployment date of NBN CO, including Extel, Spintel and Tangerine, and they all represent an incredible value.
It may not be surprising that the plans of 500 Mbps saw an early launch, because even the CEO of Nbn Co, Ellie Sweeney, “said:” Looking towards the future, it is [NBN Co’s] Atem that our level of rough speed of 500 Mbps becomes the most popular NBN plan in Australia. »»
It is also possible to register for an early NBN 750 plan via Spintel, which presents itself as a great value when compared to the price which, in some cases, is better than certain NBN 25 plans of suppliers which are slower.
We do not yet know how new NBN 2000 “hyperficent” plans will cost, but we will certainly keep our eyes open for the best offers on their arrival officially.
If your house is eligible for the free upgrade of fibers, you can register for a high -speed NBN plan with your chosen service provider which will then activate the upgrade in your name. You will have a date for a technician to install the necessary wiring and equipment in your premises, and you can revel in ultra-fast download speeds shortly after.
