The opinion warned that non-compliance would be interpreted as a refusal or inability to present a defense. He also declared that in the event of non-compliance, the legal proceedings were going to go ahead.

The NCCIA warned that not appearing could lead to an action under article 174 of the Pakistan Criminal Code, which deals with non-assistance in response to an order of an official. In such a case, said the agency, an arrest could be justified.

The federal government officially created the NCCIA last year, replacing the cybercriminal wing of the Federal Investigation Agency. The new body had been responsible for managing an increasing number of online offenses.

At the time of the creation of the NCCIA, the Minister of Information, Attaullah Tarar, said that the authority had been put in place to resolve questions such as online harassment, disinformation and propagation of anti-state propaganda, while protecting the digital rights of citizens.
