The camp had been used by militants as a cover for multiple attacks on security forces, according to the DPO
Militants reportedly attacked a police vehicle near an Afghan refugee camp on Kohat Road in Bannu, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of the camp.
The incident took place when Deputy Superintendent of Police Mufeez Khan was on his way from the township to Domel. The attackers hiding near the camp opened fire on his vehicle in what police described as a planned ambush. The police responded, forcing the attackers to flee.

The police vehicle was partially damaged but no casualties were reported. Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the suspects.
District police chief Yaser Afridi said the camp had been used by militants as a cover for multiple attacks on security forces. He said Afghan refugees had already had time to return to Afghanistan and a large number of families had returned, but due to security concerns and the repeated use of the camp as a shield by militants, the evacuation was ordered.

According to district administration officials, the camp housed 2,567 people. Of these, 1,700 had already returned to Afghanistan before Saturday’s incident. Following the attack, another 120 people belonging to 20 families were repatriated. Heavy machinery was also deployed to demolish camp structures as part of the evacuation.
Police officials asserted that law and order in the area remained under control and vowed to intensify action against militant elements while ensuring protection of lives and properties.
