Of all the new iOS 26 functions that have been unveiled at WWDC 2025, Apple Music’s Automix was the star – a new tool that uses AI to mix songs together in the style of a DJ.
He took the internet to storm and received an extremely positive response, but now that IOS 26 has completely deployed, users have resumed certain setbacks which could tarnish the reputation of Automix – and all this to do with its limited compatibility.
In the current state of things, Automix can only be used on iPhone, iPad and Mac models which are supported by Silicon Apple. Apart from that, Automix is not compatible, which rubbed subscribers in the wrong direction.
The main problem that disappointed users have raised is the incompatibility of Automix with Airplay, which allows you to broadcast music from your Apple Music account to a compatible device such as a speaker or an intelligent television. It is essentially the equivalent of Apple Music to Spotify Connect, but why is it such a big problem for users?

“This 100% looks like an artificial limitation”
What brought people so excited by Automix is its effortless and effortless audio mixing capacity, bearing the classic crossfado function to a new level. Users have seen this as a perfect addition to bring social rallies to life – until they notice that Iirplay does not support it.
Although you can always use Automix when connected to a Bluetooth device, Airplay is an integral part of Apple’s audio ecosystem, so the lack of support here is quite strange. A user on Reddit (see below) explained that his main use case was to broadcast Automix via Airplay on a Sonos speaker, with whom many others seemed to agree.
That said, a handful of users pointed out that when Automix took place for the first time in beta iOS 26, Airplay actually worked, but was so buggy to the point where users disabled it. Some are optimistic that Apple currently corrects this bug and will deploy Airplay compatibility in a next software update, but others implore to postpone.
Are there other limits?
It turns out that in addition to AirPlay compatibility, there are other limits that are frustrated. Apple TV and HomePod are the next most important problems, but some believe that Automix could come to HomePod 2 if it has never been released.
Apple Watch and Android users are also missing on automatic overhaul, as are those who currently use Intel Macs and Apple Music app for Windows.
Although there is a community of Apple Music fans who always appreciate what Automix brings to the table, others are not so satisfied with its limits since the functionality has been so much appreciated. The only thing we can do now is to hope that these losses are only temporary, and that improvements in the compatibility of Automix will be carried out in almost future software updates. Maybe iOS 26.1 will be this one.
