India and China must resolve the friction along their border, withdraw troops and avoid “restrictive trade measures” to normalize their relationship, his Chinese counterpart from India in Beijing said on Monday.

The Subrahmanyam of India Jaishankar met Wang Yi in Beijing during his first trip to the country since 2020, when a deadly border confrontation between their troops led to a four -year -old military confrontation and damaged links until a thaw begins in October, when they agreed to take a step back.

The “good progress” made by countries in the last nine months for the standardization of relations are the result of the resolution of the friction along their border, Jaishankar told Wang.

India and China share a border of 3,800 km (2,400 miles) poorly defined and disputed since the 1950s. They fought a brief but brutal border war in 1962 and discussions over the decades to settle the border dispute have made progress.

Last month, Indian Minister of Defense, Rajnath Singh, told his Chinese counterpart that the two countries should seek a “permanent solution” at the border dispute, considered a new push of New Delhi for a conclusive result.

“It is now up to us to solve other aspects related to the border, including de -escalation,” said Jaishankar, adding that it was also essential that restrictive commercial measures and roadblocks are avoided to promote mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Minister spoke in the context of Beijing restrictions in recent months on the supplies of critical minerals such as rare earth magnets and machines for the manufacture of high -tech products.

India holds the fifth largest reserve of rare land in the world, but its interior production remains underdeveloped.

Jaishankar, who is in China to attend the meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, met Chinese vice-president Han Zheng earlier during the day, the official Chinese Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

India and China should regularly progress practical cooperation and respect the other’s concerns, Han told Jaishankar, Xinhua reported.
