Non-fungible token (NFT) project Azuki has announced the release of ANIME, a Japanese cartoon-themed token described on its website as a “cultural coin.”
The price of Azuki NFTs increased by 9.1% following the announcement, with the cheapest NFT selling for 13.77 ETH ($42,000), according to CoinGecko.
“We have acquired Anime.com, which will soon launch alongside Animecoin as the home of global anime fandom,” Azuki wrote on X. “And now, with the Animecoin Foundation, we are forging the next arc for anime… Our mission remains the same: to build the open universe of anime.”
The token will be distributed with a strong focus on the community, with 50.5% of the total supply being allocated to the community, of which 37.5% will be fully unlocked at launch while a further 13% will be managed by the ANIME holders in the future to fund community incentives and initiatives.
The company’s team and advisors will receive 15.6% of the offering tied to a three-year vesting schedule.
The move to release a native token follows Pudgy Penguins, which issued PENGU in December, which now has a market capitalization of $1.87 billion.
